Birdboy is a film about the brief entanglement between two lonely souls: Calvin, a listless young man with a doting family, and Jerry, a foreign sex worker with no social connections.
With locations in KL from streetside coffee shops to glitzy hotel rooms to dingy back alleys, director Hu Tianpei asked me to bring out the Southeast Asian flavour of the city. I crafted the look with an additional lift in the contrast to accentuate the rootless and wandering natures of the characters.
